The $500 test

Can you advertise on podcasts for $500?
Where to put it
One platform, one flight, all $500. The split-it-thin instinct (two platforms at $250) doubles your setup work and halves each sample. Route choice: Spotify if your conversion happens on your site and you want the pixel; AudioGo if the business is local. Rates basis: .
The honest ceiling
Run the modeler’s math forward: 41,667 impressions at a 1% visit rate is roughly 417 visits; at 2% conversion that is roughly 8 orders. Eight orders is not a CAC measurement, it is a pulse check: the confidence interval around eight of anything is enormous. Most content about $500 podcast tests pretends otherwise. A $500 test that produces zero trackable response is also information; it usually means creative, offer, or audience fit failed, not that the channel is dead.
What decision it feeds
Pre-commit the branch before spending: if effective CPM lands near published floors and anything converts, scale to the $2,500 test where per-show signal starts to exist. If delivery was fine but response was zero, change one variable (offer, creative, audience) and re-run at the same size. Do not conclude the channel works or fails from $500; conclude whether it is worth $2,500.
